After the Storm

Short film

Overview

In November 2013, Typhoon Haiyan devastated the central Philippines, killing over 6,000 people and displacing millions. As one of the most powerful typhoons ever recorded, Haiyan destroyed homes, infrastructure, and livelihoods, particularly affecting poor coastal communities in Samar and Leyte. The collapse of law enforcement, overcrowded and unsafe evacuation centres, and delayed government response created conditions where gender-based violence surged.

This short film centres on Luchie, a survivor-turned-advocate, who experienced firsthand how climate change can exacerbate cases of gender-based violence and what she and her community are doing to fight back against it.

About the Project

For this project, Palim provided a full production package. The team guided our client through an initial inception and strategy phase, honing key messaging, audiences and objectives. A pre-production plan was developed including creative treatment and script. Filming and photography took place in Samar, the Philippines, over the course of three days, with the Palim crew directing and line producing. In post-production, Palim provided in-house narrative editing, coordinating editorial reviews with our client, working with translators to deliver the final product.
